Welcome to the official Hammond Crime Watch website. We are thrilled that you’ve decided to visit us.
On this website, you will find out what Hammond Crime Watch is all about. Those involved in Neighborhood Crime Watch groups throughout the country are residents and business owners just like you. We take ownership and great pride in our community by refusing to let the criminal element take advantage of us. Keeping our neighborhoods beautiful, well-lit, and getting to know who your neighbors are, all play key parts in making neighborhoods safer. In fact, as a home or business owner, you can take advantage of a program through the Urban Enterprise Zone that offers “FREE” Home/Business Security Light. Look for the link to the right for more information. These lights turn “on” at night and “off” at dawn, a great and affordable way to deter crime.
As you browse through this website, you’ll also find a link to not only help you make your home safer (AND GET PARTIALLY REIMBURSED FOR IT), but you’ll also get some tips on ways to not be taken advantage of crime-wise, to not be a victim, and to boost your eagerness - and willingness - to report a crime if you see one happening. Hammond Neighborhood Crime Watch members are literally the “eyes and ears of our police department”.
The link to the “Eddie Eagle Gun Safe” Program will provide information regarding what a child needs to do in the event that a gun is found in the home, on the playground, in school, etc… This program - along with “Eddie Eagle” teaches four simple rules, namely, “Stop! Don’t Touch! Leave the Area! Tell an Adult!” Since 1999, roughly 16,000 Hammond school children have participated in this program. If you’d like “Eddie Eagle” to visit your school, clink on the link to the right. “Eddie” can fly in upon invitation.
Lastly, there are several Neighborhood Crime Watch groups throughout the city of Hammond. All of these groups and various events are listed on this website, in addition to the sponsors who, through their heartfelt generosity, help keep this website up and running, as well as providing much-needed funding for “Eddie Eagle” material. Hammond Neighborhood Crime Watch is a not-for-profit organization. Citizen and business owner involvement keeps our streets safer, bringing a sense of pride and ownership in a great city like Hammond.
